Welcome to Medicare for All Week, 2021.

Medicare for All Week is a limited event series brought to you by the Death Panel, running Feb 8 - 13, 2021. For six straight days we’re bringing you a brand new interview on building the movement for single payer and bigger demands to decomodify health.

First we speak to journalist Libby Watson about her publication Sick Note, how the press minimize systemic problems in the healthcare system, and why all our many “choices” for health insurance are terrible. Next, physician Adam Gaffney joins us to talk about how the coronavirus pandemic demonstrates the need not just for Medicare for All, but for greater public coordination of the American hospital system. Then we speak with medical geographer, Arrianna M. Planey about how for-profit health and hospital systems drive economic and racial inequality and uphold and reinforce structural racism. In our fourth interview, we speak with social epidemiologist Justin Feldman about police violence as a public health vector, and how our disorganized private healthcare systems skew data collection to obscure the negative public health effects of capitalism. Then we speak with Dean Spade about how the goals of the abolition movement and the movement for Medicare for All are intertwined, how we build power, and how Medicare for All would create a base to help us push for broader demands.

Stay tuned for the rest of the series…
