Transcripts
Our goal on Patreon is to reach 2500 patrons—at which point we can afford to have regular transcripts available for all main feed episodes. For now, transcripts are available for select episodes, and we are slowly working on catching up on the back catalogue and reducing the amount of time it takes for us to finish a transcript and post it.
At the moment our capacity to offer transcripts of Death Panel is limited. This is due to Beatrice’s disability, and the conflicting access needs that exist with regard to editing/correcting transcripts and her low vision/blindness. The labor of producing transcripts is usually poorly compensated and historically is often done by disabled people due to the flexibility and availability of working on transcription from home. We are committed to making the show accessible and paying our transcript makers a fair wage.
If you would like to help us reach our goal, then please become a patron and support our work to make the show more accessible.
Mask Bans Are Everyone’s Fight (08/22/24)
Death Panel podcast hosts Beatrice Adler-Bolton, Artie Vierkant, and Jules Gill-Peterson discuss the mask ban passed in Nassau County last week, the latest in a dramatic rise in legislation criminalizing face masks and targeting the Palestine solidarity movement. We look at what happened in the overtly hostile public hearing over the ban, the history of the New York statute that ban proponents want back, and how the threat of mask bans goes far beyond public health: mask bans embolden racist policing; they’re anti-trans; and they target the whole of the left.
#N95s4UCSF w/ Alice Wong (02/01/24)
Death Panel podcast host Beatrice Adler-Bolton speaks with Alice Wong about Alice's campaign to reinstate a mask mandate at UCSF, a hospital system home to a number of physicians who have played an outsized, deleterious, role in advocating for a premature end to covid protections.
Letters from Gaza w/ Danya Qato (01/25/24)
Death Panel podcast host Beatrice Adler-Bolton shares messages from Death Panel listeners in Gaza and speaks with Danya Qato about how the totalizing nature of the genocide of Palestine can't be captured in death and injury statistics alone.
Unmaking the Pandemic Welfare State (01/18/24)
Death Panel podcast co-hosts Beatrice Adler-Bolton, Artie Vierkant, and Phil Rocco discuss how recent claims that Biden has tried to bring about “the largest expansion of the welfare state in a half century” ignore his track record of ending every last pandemic welfare program.

Death Panel podcast co-hosts Beatrice Adler-Bolton, Artie Vierkant, Phil Rocco, Jules Gill-Peterson and Abby Cartus present their 2023 year in review, taking a look back at the last year of major social and political developments that worked to normalize covid in 2023.
Economic Endemicity Blue (12/07/23)
As we prepare to record "Covid Year Four," Death Panel podcast co-hosts Beatrice Adler-Bolton, Artie Vierkant, and Abby Cartus discuss what is left of national covid data following the end of the public health emergency, how what's left has become so thoroughly abstracted, and how the CDC prioritizes representing deaths as an abstract percentage even as the official death count has been over 1,000 a week since August.
Lifetime Care with William Bronston (UNLOCKED)
Death Panel podcast co-hosts Beatrice Adler-Bolton and Phil Rocco speak with lifelong activist Dr. William Bronston about his experiences trying to take down the infamous Willowbrook institution from within as a young doctor, his appeal to replace “long term care” with “lifetime care," and how his work towards deinstitutionalization informs his ongoing advocacy for single payer healthcare.

Unwound (08/24/23)
Death Panel podcast co-hosts, Beatrice Adler-Bolton, Artie Vierkant, and Phil Rocco, discuss how the Medicaid "Unwinding," which has already seen over 5 million and counting lose their social safety net health insurance, is still being treated as such an afterthought in the press, even as the Biden administration does nothing to stop it.
Social Determinants of Health (Unlocked)
The Panel, Beatrice Adler-Bolton, Artie Vierkant, Phil Rocco and Abby Cartus, discuss the meaning and history of "the social determinants of health"—all of the social and political factors that impact individual and population health beyond what healthcare traditionally focuses on—and what becomes possible when we recognize that health is political. This episode was originally a patron exclusive.
Organized Abandonment w/ Ruth Wilson Gilmore (10/06/22)
Beatrice Adler-Bolton speaks with Ruth Wilson Gilmore about how to understand the concept of "the state," the capitalist state's capacity of organized abandonment, and the extraction of time.
Abolition and the Pandemic w/ Dan Berger
Dan Berger joins the Panel, Beatrice Adler-Bolton, Artie Vierkant and Phil Rocco, for a detailed overview of how the pandemic has demonstrated the need for carceral abolition, how little has been done in the last two years to protect incarcerated people, and why prisons and policing are antithetical to public health.
Covid Year Two (12/13/2021)
Death Panel co-hosts, Beatrice Adler-Bolton, Artie Vierkant, and Phil Rocco, review the year 2021 in the U.S. covid response, and the profound miscalculations on the part of the government and the media that have played a direct role in keeping this crisis ongoing. While this episode is retrospective, we have covered the pandemic quite closely day in day out since March 2020. If you’d like to listen to some of shows we released reacting in real time to some of the events described in Covid Year Two; start with our episodes “Meaning Production at 500,000 Dead” from February, “A Pandemic of the Unvaccinated” from July, “Operation Enduring Virus” from September, or “Bracing for the Wave” from December. Suffice it to say it has been a terrible year.
